Weir’s Lane Hill Climb Club Championship TT – Aug. 26, 2010

At least Steve Baker (left) and Rob Faulkner could smile after the hill climbing was done.

It was a windy affair last night out at Weir’s Lane. Fantastic turnout given the difficulty of the course. A surprising amount of riders waited for their last run to put in their best time. Everyone that competed automatically qualifies for “VIKING” status in my books! Of course, Steve Baker, and his TT helmet, took the club hill climb title 😉

1. Steve Baker: 3:42, 7:00, 5:09
2. Jim Hutchison: 4:30, 7:38, 6:46
3. Chris Komar: 4:36, 8:37, 4:54
4. Greg Archi: 4:50, 6:40, 4:42
5. Tony DiSylvestro: 4:45, 5:05, 5:10
6. Suzy Brown: 4:50, 7:27, 4:49
7. Rob Faulkner: 5:16, 6:55, 4:55
8. Burt Rufenack: 5:06, 5:40, 5:44
9. Eritia Smit: 5:09, 6:17, 5:33
10. Sarah Rasmussen: 5:44, 7:35, 5:35

Many riders probably did best on their third attempt because they dropped their chain on their first climb, recovered for a climb and tried hard on their third, despite being fatigued. It sucks, and doesn’t result in a scorching time, but that’s why we have races!

Thx Rob for the TT brain bucket.
Dropping a chain…that’s nothing (:>). I had sparks (well a single spark that I saw anyway) come off my back cassette b/c my chain was skipping on run 2 when I had it in the small chain ring. So I had to stop on the 17% grade get off my bike and then to remount I had to descend in order to clip in.
    PS – 30 km/h barrier stills stands.
    3:42 = 29.2 km/h
    3:36 = 30.0 km/h
    Another year to wait…
