Top news and future plans from the 2023 AGM

by

On Feb. 2, 2024, we finally held our 2023 AGM.

We held it online using a tool that was new to us, Discord. (This meant the agenda included an unscripted item: a handful of cyclists getting lost in the platform’s invites, channels, and settings.)

We got it working, and attendees heard the following.

Looking back: HCC in 2023

  • We held time trials every week from May to August 2023. The location alternated between Indian Trail and Safari Road.
  • The Indian Trail TT averaged 5.5 riders last year, down from 8.7 in 2022. Safari Road averaged 5.7 riders compared to 5.6 in 2022.
  • We rerouted a shortened June Falklands 40 km TT due to a new traffic circle and road work. The August event featured a new Start/Finish and was a full 40 km.
  • The Speed Week events were abridged because of heavy smoke from wildfires.
  • We held one criterium on a new course, with just three chilly riders.
  • The Brian Chewter race was not held due to low registration.
  • We have applied to Ontario Cycling (OC) for 2024 club affiliation but more red tape is causing issues.

Looking ahead: What’s up for 2024

  • We have a new Executive who will support the club in 2024.
  • We will focus on growing club membership and event participation this year.
  • We are working on our website and social platforms after recent departures of past Execs.
  • We will consider our Youth Secretary’s proposal for a youth mountain bike program.
  • We are looking for a suitable road race course, using an Australian Pursuit format as required by OC
  • There may be a good section of road for a new time trial course near Caledonia.
  • We have added a concussion protocol (as required by OC) that riders aged 26 and under must read and sign.
