HCC Starts Youth Mountain Bike Rides

The Hamilton Cycling Club is proud to announce its partnership with Hamilton Youth Cycling in order to offer youth Mountain Bike Group rides. Any youth members of the HCC is welcome to attend these group rides. Normal age group will be between 8-14 years old. Older kids are welcome and can assist in the rides. Parents or Guardians are encouraged to come on the rides to act as guides.

Rides will be Monday and Thursday nights weather permitting. We meet at 5:30 p.m. and ride out at 6 p.m. The Monday night ride will meet at Rousseau Public School, Ancaster and the Thursday night ride will meet at Valley Park, Upper Stoney Creek. There will be special rides and events throughout the year so if you are interested send your info in and get on the mailing list.

Anyone attending a ride for the first time will have to fill out an application form. If you have further questions or want an application email the contact person below.

Can you donate bike parts?

We are fortunate to have had a couple of bike frames donated to HCC’s Bike Loan program. However, we need a lot more parts if we are going to make complete bikes out of them: wheels, tires, drive train parts, pedals, seats, handle bars, stems, etc.

So, if you have any parts laying around that you don’t use, please consider donating them to the club. Contact Ken Wilson to drop-off items or arrange pick-up. If we get more than we can use, we may well pass them along to the gent who spoke at our Awards Banquet last fall, who operates the Bikes for Cuba program. Interested in Youth Mountain Bike Rides?

The Hamilton Cycling Club will be starting up their youth mountain bike rides soon and wants to hear from you to gauge interest. The goal is to introduce young riders to the sport, build their fitness and show them some skills on local trails. We will change the locations occasionally and interested riders will be informed the week before where we will be riding. Please RSVP to Peter Martin at peter.martin(at)phrenic.net so we have an idea of the number of riders interested in coming to the ride.

Local Cycling Sport Team for Youth

The Hamilton Cycling Club and the Forest City Velodrome are pleased to announce the formation of a new youth development racing team to be known as “The Attack – Cycling Team”. The team will contest all the Youth Cup races as well as selected Ontario Cup (“O Cup”) races in Ontario beginning in 2012. The ages of the team members will be from 8 to 16 years old. The new team has adopted the policy of no child will be left behind.

The mission of the team will be to promote cycling with youth in the catchment area – from London to Oakville – through skills development with an emphasis on safety as well as to prepare and develop interested youth for competitive road and/or track racing. Parents will be encouraged to participate with club rides and activities throughout the year.

The team will be led by two experienced coaches, Rob Good and Henry Dudko, headquartered in London and Hamilton respectively. The team will have access to year-round training at the Forest City Velodrome, with weekly training rides throughout the year in Hamilton, Burlington/Oakville and London.  All members of “The ATTACK – Cycling Team” will have individual personalized training programs to help build a solid foundation of training for the 2012 season.

Youth MTB Rides Restart

The HCC Youth Mountain Bike Ride will be back on this Wednesday, May 4 at 6 p.m. after a cancellation last week. All ages, including adults, are welcome to this ride that will focus on our youth riders. MTB rides are 6 pm every Wednesday. This week we will ride at Iroquois Heights. Meeting place is the parking lot on Scenic Drive right at the top of the Chedoke rail trail. Contact Peter Martin with any questions at peter.martin(at)phrenic.net.

HCC Youth Rides Start Today

HCC Youth rides are scheduled to happen this week at 6pm, Tuesday at the Safari Rd TT course to pre ride the course, Wednesday MTB at Iroquois Heights and Thursday at the bottom of Sydenham road ride.  At this point the weather looks less than perfect.  For this week we will cancel the ride if it’s raining.  As long as it’s not raining we will go ahead with the ride.  Please ensure that you dress warmly i.e. jackets and full finger gloves if it’s cool.  If in doubt you may contact Peter regarding the MTB ride at peter.martin(at)phrenic.net or David regarding the road rides at  david_denduk(at)hotmail.com.
